Almonte Readers & Writers is pleased to present the April series of Art of Writing workshops and courses exploring aspects of creative and technical skills development in literary arts, offered as part of the 2025 Lanark Lit Festival of Writing.

Overview

The intention of this poetry workshop is to liberate your body, heart and mind to write freely and find a flow with your words. Together, we will shake off what hold us back from beginning and continuing a creative writing practice. Join us for a transformative exploration of language where we will find the space to loosen constraints on our writing. This is where we find delight in words and where a true sense of expression is found. The joy in writing comes when we surprise ourselves with new expression.

What will we do in this workshop?

We will delve into the language of the heart through engaging prompts, mindfulness practices, and a supportive sharing circle. Participants will explore their creative voices and connect more deeply with their emotions.

Who is this workshop for?

No prior writing experience is necessary—just bring an open heart and a willingness to express yourself!

About the instructor:

Kimberley Murphy is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is deeply rooted in a lifelong love for nature and animals. Since childhood, this connection has shaped her creative vision. As an adult, writing emerged as a vital practice, allowing her to explore and articulate the language of her heart. Through her art, Kimberley captures the essence of fleeting moments, emotions, and the changing seasons, all of which reflect her internal landscape.

Fueled by a rebellious and wild spirit, she has embraced creativity as a means to harmonize her unruly heart.

Currently, Kimberley resides along the banks of the Mississippi River with her partner, David, and their rescue dog, Rocky.

The 2025 Lanark Lit Festival of Writing is presented by Almonte Readers & Writers thanks to the generous funding support of Lanark County, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills, the Perth & District Community Foundation, and the Elizabeth Kelly Library Foundation, with community partnership from the Mississippi Mills Public Library, the Perth & District Public Library, Mill Street Books, Almonte Writers Guild, and with the community support of Equator Coffee, OVC Almonte, Jazzy’s Brewhaus and other local partners
